Road Legal Number Plates
The rules on how the new type pf number plates are very strict and whilst you can get plates made up in ways that do not conform to the law, it is very likely, with the number of CCTV's that are used by the authorities in the UK, that you will be penalised. It is therefore not advisable to place extra spacing or use different fonts on number plates that are destined for use on road vehicles. If you are unsure then check our FAQ's or the DVLA website.
Older Registration Plates
The rules for the old style plates are however a lot less strict, and so you can customise these to a far greater degree, however, you must never build a plate in such a way that seems to change the identifying characters, as this is again against the rules. If in doubt seek advice.
Show Plates
Many people have vehicles that are just intended for showing and are never used on the road, such vehicles can have number plates in any way that the owner fancies. To keep with the "theme" of the vehicle however, many veteran vehicles use the old fashioned black and silver pressed metal plates, as these are much more in keeping with the vehicles style.
