A car with an interesting history
There are lots of old cars about and the history of Kaiser-Frazer Corp cars are not well known, even amonst those keen on old cars. These cars were assembled from components shipped to Canada, however, the business agreement between Reo and Kaiser ceased with just one 1952 model assembled, all because Reo needed all of the factory’s floor space for other purposes.
So, it’s not often that you run across one of these Canadian made Kaisers. Indeed, one has popped up in an ad in the latest monthly newsletter of the Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club International.
The car is in fact an all-original Kaiser Special and still wears the Cape Verde green paint applied at the factory.
This Kaiser was bought new by an Ontario school teacher who had the unfortunate enough tp slide off the road into a lake one frosty morning just after buying the car. It was fished out and towed to a local repair shop where it emaind for many a year.
It was eventually sold and the new owners put most of the 16,000 original miles on the car in the few months they owned it. It was then added to an old car collection by the Northcotts family.
These old Kaisers handle quite a bit better than most cars of the era and the ’51 Special would be a worthwhile project for anyone interested in the history of auto manufacturing in Canada.
