Police in Harborough in the UK have started a crackdown on car crime it seems, a number of cars and officers being active in the town centre. This Police force is amongst many to use the Automatic Number Plate recognition system to pick up any car that is reported stolen, or does not have an MOT or insurance.
However, many people are unhappy with the fact that personal privacy is being erroded by the use of the Automatic Number Plate system and there are no doubt changes to the system in the pipeline.
The one good thing about this type of Police activity is that it does make it harder for criminals to move about and for those drivers who insist on driving without an MOT or insurance.
