Spending on Private Number Plates Has Reached £571 Million pounds over the Last 7 Years.
Data released by the DVLA in Swanser has revealed that vehicle owners in the UK have spent an astonishing £571 million pounds on personalised number plates over the last seven years, the profits from these sales reaping an average of £250,000 every day.
With personalised number plates available from as little as £250 these days these plates are now in the reach of all. However, the most desirable ones can cost thousands of pounds.
One of the most expensive DVLA car registration todate is 51NGH which was sold in 2006 for a hefty sum of £254,000. Another driver paid £51,500 for a number plate which read 1RAN, while a businessman from Wales, spent close to £28,000 for a car registration titled WEL5H.
Damien Lawson, the marketing manager for the DVLA’s personalised registration department, stated that "personalised number plates are becoming an extremely popular gift option among the people of the UK".
Indeed a survey conducted by the DVLA between October 2008 and January 2009 has further proved this claim by stating that a staggering 46 percent of the personalised number plates sold during this period were presents for loved ones.
Mr Lawson also added that a lot of people these days are buying personalised number plate for investment purposes, it being quite possible that like Website domain names, that the right one could be worth a lot of money in the future.
